Co-location Facility

Institutions may also choose to have their school's data stored at a co-locational facility. By storing information such as papers and student information on a server at a carrier-neutral collocation facility, institutions can maintain complete control over sensitive information.

  1. COMPLETE CONTROL. The Turnitin client has complete control over their institution's intellectual property (IP). If at any time the client wishes to end their contract with Turnitin, they have the option of directly removing their intellectual property from the COLO.
  2. COST EFFECTIVE. Turnitin provides a COLO hosting option for it's clients because it is more cost efficient to have all of the Turnitin technology hosted and maintained at iParadigms' home offices as opposed to hosting the same technology, utilizing multiple racks and expensive servers, at the client's institution. Turnitin assumes the hardware, configuration, installation, maintenance, and update costs while our clients only pay a small COLO charge.
  3. ADDED SECURITY. There is no direct connection between the co-located IP Servers and the internet. All intellectual property electronically submitted by Turnitin clients initially arrives at the Turnitin.com server farm.
  4. ENHANCED PRIVACY. As an additional feature, Turnitin clients who decide to co-locate an IP Server can optionally have an encryption key placed onto their server so that all private information stored in the Turnitin SQL databases can be completely encrypted. This means that all student names, Id's, phone numbers, and grades are stored as encrypted information and can only be decrypted by the key residing on the client's co-located server.
