Board of DirectorsiParadigms' Board of Directors is comprised of accomplished executives from software, education, publishing and private equity. iParadigms is backed by Warburg Pincus, a global leader in private equity.![]() John M. Barrie, PhDCo-Founder Dr. John Barrie is co-founder of iParadigms. In 1996 iParadigms set out to create a new model for ascertaining the originality of written work. Dr. Barrie is the original architect of the technology behind Turnitin, the leading plagiarism prevention service used by millions of students and faculty in more than 100 countries (including every university in the U.K.), and iThenticate — a commercial version of Turnitin designed for publishers and in-use at all of the major scholarly publishers in the English-speaking world. Dr. Barrie's vision is to use technology to drive the production of original work such that other, efficiency-creating technologies can then be employed in the modern classroom to increase feedback to students. Dr. Barrie's ultimate goal is to exponentially increase classroom feedback to students (regarding their course work) in order to create engagement between the students and their peers, their instructors, and the core course material that they are in school to learn — to use technology to reform education and significantly increase learning. To that end, Dr. Barrie and his colleagues have made Turnitin into the most highly used teaching technology in the world. As a leading expert in his field, Dr. Barrie has been featured on CNN, ABC (Good Morning America and World News Tonight), CBS (48 Hours with Dan Rather/60 Minutes with Morley Safer), BBC, the New York Times and USA Today. Dr. Barrie completed his undergraduate studies in Rhetoric and Neurobiology and his PhD in Biophysics/Neurobiology — both at the University of California, Berkeley. ![]() Chris CarenChairman & CEO Chris Caren joined iParadigms in 2009 as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
