Senior System Administrator

Position Requirements

Demonstrate experience with:

  • installation, configuration, administration, monitoring, documentation, and troubleshooting of hardware running UNIX (Linux in particular)
  • scripting complicated tasks
  • interpreted languages such as Bash, Perl, Python, etc.
  • installing and maintaining RAID sub-systems
  • network infrastructure, installation, and maintenance
  • Postfix SMTP mailer required
  • backup strategies, backup software, online replication, and near-line libraries

Ability to:

  • implement and maintain monitoring of online services
  • design and administer incident response plan
  • design and administer disaster recovery plan
  • build custom Unix kernels (*BSD, Linux) and software packages
  • Working knowledge of:

    • network load balancing (Foundry ServerIron, F5 Big-IP, Cisco CSS)
    • scaling SSL acceleration solutions
    • network routing, including Cisco IOS
    • firewalls (hardware and software)
    • Xen virtualization
    • Apache configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and debugging
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Work comfortably with others in a group environment
    • Good organizational and time-management skills

    Position Requirements

    • Ensure 24x7 availability of mission critical online services (mail, www etc.), also by being on rotation to carry a pager for 24x7 emergency notification and subsequently carry out actions to remedy mission-critical problems.
    • Secure Linux servers and network devices. (Firewall, security updates).
    • Ensure regular backups of critical data to disks, back up tapes.
    • Install and maintain servers with Linux to be used in production environment.
    • Configure commercial and open source load balancers with SSL offloaders for web services. Configure and troubleshoot Apache, Postgresql.
    • Assist developers in building development environment. Install and configure compilers, debuggers, libraries.
    • Work with development team to assist in diagnosis and resolution of production application bugs.
    • Recommend technical solutions to business problems and needs, suggest purchase needs. Forecast and budget server, storage, power, and cooling needs, proactively implement measures to prevent service disruptions and maintain quality of service for external and internal customers.
    • Regularly revisit older architectures and improve upon them.

    Web Application Developer

    The Account Manager will work with a small group of enthusiastic and creative professionals to sell Turnitin -- a suite of online tools designed to help educators and students stop internet plagiarism and improve writing and research skills. Turnitin has recently been featured in several prominent media outlets, including 60 Minutes, NPR, Dr. Phill and The New York Times.

    Expectations:

    • Generate demand for Turnitin within your sales territory using a variety of means, such as the internet, marketing campaigns, tradeshows and networking
    • Communicate effectively, through both verbal and written correspondence, with upper-level decision makers at academic institutions
    • Maintain and nourish a strong customer relationship throughout an extended sales cycle
    • Assist our training and outreach staff as necessary to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction and maximize renewal potential
    • Adhere to set processes while qualified opportunities are moved through the sales cycle
    • Consistently meet or exceed quarterly sales goals

    Skills and Experience:

    • BA/BS degree preferred
    • 3 yrs. experience in a quota driven inside sales role
    • Quality writing skills, excellent phone presence, and professional manner
    • History of exceeding sales quotas and recognized success
    • Ability to work effectively with a team in a fast paced, changing environment
    • Demonstrated success establishing and cultivating business relationships
    • General understanding of education software, and/or technology sales
